The business side of going independent

Know what you’ve billed.
Know what’s been paid.

You already know how to support people. Running your own business also means arranging bookings, sending invoices, keeping records and following up payments.

Business in a Box puts those tasks into a working setup you can access and understand. Your clients receive professional correspondence and invoices. You can see the payment records and find the documents your accountant needs.

You choose how much of the administration you want to handle yourself. We help you learn the everyday tasks.

The $2,995 setup

Look established.
Get the business side organised.

One agreed setup around the support work you provide.

01

A business-ready laptop

Configured for your business, with your agreed accounts and everyday tools ready to use.

02

Your own domain and professional email

A proper business email address, with your domain, account access and recovery details under your control.

03

Invoicing and payment records

Your accounting package configured with your business details and agreed invoice templates. Prepare invoices, record payments and see what is still outstanding.

04

Bookings and client administration

A calendar and organised client details, service documents and session records for the work you agree to provide.

05

Connected business accounts

The agreed email, calendar, invoicing and filing systems connected and configured, with records you can find for your accountant.

06

Practical handover

Work through the everyday tasks with Allen. Practise sending an invoice, checking payments and finding your records yourself.

Including GST. Exact inclusions are agreed before you proceed. Separate software subscriptions, renewals and usage charges are explained upfront.

Under your control

The setup stays with your business.

Your email, calendar, invoices and records are set up around your own business. You keep your login and recovery access, and decide who has permission to use your information.

Business in a Box does not take a percentage of your earnings. Once the agreed setup and handover are complete, the systems remain under your control.

Client records are confidential. Your setup must support appropriate consent, secure storage and access.

Set up, then practise

Send the invoice yourself.
Find the record yourself.

Allen connects and configures the agreed accounts with you, then works through the tasks you’ll actually use: a booking, an invoice, a payment record and finding your documents.

You don’t need to master everything before getting started. The handover gives you a practical starting point. The included first-use coaching and follow-up help you put it into practice. Work beyond the agreed package is quoted separately.

Personal coaching is part of the package

Set up for you. Practised with you. Adjusted as you start.

You don’t have to work out the new tools alone. We use your everyday business tasks to help you feel confident running the setup yourself.

Your first contact and booking

Add a customer, arrange the job and practise finding the details across your laptop and phone, with your tablet included where agreed.

Your first invoice

Prepare an invoice using your own services and prices, check the details and send it with Allen’s guidance.

Your first payment or remittance

Work through a payment notification or remittance advice, match it to the invoice and check what remains unpaid.

AI help with email and calendars

Practise using AI to draft email replies, summarise messages and help plan appointments. Check suggested replies, dates and details before sending or changing a booking. Available features depend on your accounts and subscriptions.

Documents and Drive across devices

Learn to save, find, organise and share your business documents in Drive across your laptop, phone and agreed tablet. Practise using available AI tools to draft or summarise documents, and check which account and sharing permissions you are using.

Adjustments as you start

Review how the agreed setup works for you and make agreed adjustments to templates, settings and everyday steps.

Follow-up calls and support

Bring your questions to the included coaching and two 20-minute follow-up calls within 30 days of handover. Additional work is quoted separately.

Included: a one-to-two-hour walkthrough after laptop delivery, a one-hour first-contact and booking session, a separate one-hour first-invoice session, and two 20-minute follow-up calls within 30 days of handover. The timing and scope of payment/remittance coaching, AI guidance and setup adjustments are agreed in writing before you proceed, so you know exactly what support is included.

What happens next

Set up, shown how, and supported through your first steps.

  1. 1

    Meet Allen first

Have a phone or video call. Talk through your work, see who you’re dealing with and ask your questions. There’s no obligation to buy.

  2. 2

    Get the details in writing

Confirm the $2,995 package, your exact inclusions, separate ongoing costs and the help included in your handover.

  3. 3

    Agree the appointment and payment

Agree your setup booking and estimated timeframe before paying. Your invoice identifies the supplier and ABN, the agreed work and payment terms.

  4. 4

Set up, practise and hand over

After laptop delivery, spend one to two hours getting to understand your setup and checking your account access. Then have a dedicated one-hour session for your first booking and a separate one-hour session for your first invoice, when you are ready.

How long does the setup take?

Once you decide to proceed, the initial configuration call is approximately two hours. We work through your business details, existing accounts and what you need from your email, calendar and accounting package.

Allen then spends approximately six additional hours completing the configuration, account connections and checks before laptop delivery, followed by a one-to-two-hour walkthrough after laptop delivery. A one-hour session for your first booking and a separate one-hour session for your first invoice take place when you are ready. The initial configuration call is one part of the complete setup.

Your setup appointment and expected completion timeframe are agreed before payment. Laptop availability, access to existing accounts and third-party approvals can affect the timeframe. The handover and any follow-up sessions are agreed upfront.

What should I know before paying?

Meet Allen first and receive the agreed scope and costs in writing. Confirm the supplier details and ABN, your setup booking, available payment methods, cancellation terms and how any setup problems will be handled. Ask about anything you are unsure of before proceeding.

Payment is arranged through your invoice after the setup is agreed. This website does not collect your payment or card details.

What will I be able to check at handover?

Work through a practical task such as preparing an invoice, finding a customer record and accessing your business email. Check your own login and recovery access and understand which subscriptions and renewals you manage. The package also includes a one-hour session for your first booking and a separate one-hour session for your first invoice when you are ready, plus two 20-minute courtesy calls within 30 days of handover. Additional work is quoted separately.

Before you decide

Your questions, answered.

Do I need to leave a platform to do this?

No. This setup is for support workers who want to run their own independent business. Discuss your current arrangements with Allen. Any change to existing work must respect your agreements and the choices of the people you support.

Can I learn to do the invoicing myself?

Yes. The handover includes practising an invoice, recording a payment and checking what is outstanding. You keep access to your systems and decide how much administration you handle yourself or with your accountant. Your included coaching and follow-up are outlined below. Work beyond the agreed package is quoted separately.

Who owns the accounts and records?

Your business accounts are established in your name and under your control. You retain access to your email, invoicing and business records. Client information still needs to be handled confidentially and with appropriate consent and access controls.

Do you take a percentage of my income?

Business in a Box charges for the agreed setup and does not take a percentage of your earnings. The setup is $2,995 including GST. Software subscriptions, domain renewals and other third-party charges are separate unless expressly included, and are explained before you proceed.

Does this include NDIS registration or guaranteed work?

No. This is a business setup service. It does not provide NDIS registration, customers, bookings or guaranteed income. You remain responsible for the requirements of your work, including appropriate checks, insurance, agreements and service obligations.

What if I already have an ABN or some accounts?

Tell Allen what you already use, including your ABN, bank account, email and accounting software. The agreed setup builds around what is suitable and considers your accountant’s requirements.
